I have not yet gotten all the endings but it's a really cute story!

(3 edits)

Okay, now I got all the endings and I completely squealed when I saw who shows up at the end!

I wonder if Matin's sister has to deal with the council, or if she's sufficiently isolated to escape their ire.

Here's my full review:

A mysterious stranger appears in the shop of a nonbinary witch and asks for a curse.  Each time the witch (you) sell the mysterious stranger a curse, the news reports that the princess of the neighboring kingdom was cursed, and the prince attempts to save her.  Sometimes the prince succeeds, other times he fails, but each time the mysterious stranger comes back and asks you for another curse.  While the stranger's identity becomes clear rather quickly, his motivations and his relationship to the princess are harder to discern.

True Love's Curse is a mix of puzzle and visual novel, where you combine words in different permutations to create "curses."  Each curse is followed by a scene describing how the fairytale plays out.  The puzzle aspects are not particularly challenging, and you will eventually solve them by brute force if you keep trying.  It took me less than one hour to get all the endings.

This game is perfectly approachable even if you have never played an npckc game before.  On the other hand, if you have played *A Tavern for Tea*, you may notice the setup for this game feels similar.  The stories play out very differently, though, so this game does not feel like a rehash.

If you've played A Hero and a Garden before and like the characters, then you are in for a real treat when you play this one.

All in all, this game is a short yet sweet queer fairytale with fun for both new and returning npckc fans.  It's not a sprawling epic or a super long complicated puzzle, but it is exactly as long as it needs to be for the story.

This was super cute! Loved all the endings, the narrative was super fun and the artstyle and overall aesthetic matched it super well!

super cute game! it's fun and easy to play plus it was neat to see all of the endings!

lol funny little game :) ps glad it worked on linux.

This was pretty fun! The main story is cute, but I enjoyed testing all the different curses!

I managed to find 5 (?) endings, how many are there total?

(also has no commentary.)

Adorable Visual Novel! Really enjoyed it till the end. Always adorable art, and loved all the endings as well. Also loved the character designs, especially Matin. I also love the color scheme of the backgrounds as well, especially for what game jam this is in. You always do an amazing-perfect job.

Thank you, and Happy Valentines Day.
